Could someone explain generally how the fir1 band-stop filter works in MatLab, or point me to somewhere where I might learn about it.

I'm guessing that it just simply constructs a polynomial which has zeros near the parts of the unit circle which correspond to frequencies that the user wants to attenuate, but I'm not sure about this. And if it is this, then maybe someone could talk more in detail about its specific method for doing this.
