I hope this isn't too far off topic: Does anyone know where I can find out what companies in my area use MATLAB? Does Mathworks have a consulting division? And where are good places to look if I am getting an MS in math and would like a job programming MATLAB?

Thanks

See Mathworks web site. They have job openining in there. You can
search by type of job and location also.

I'd consider it on-topic.

I'm not sure there's a better way than either calling them up and asking or
looking at their open jobs on various job websites and looking for jobs that
mention MATLAB.

Yes, it does.

Looking at the job search site, though, it doesn't appear as though there
are any open positions in Consulting at the moment.

Programming MATLAB or programming _using_ MATLAB? For the former, MathWorks;
for the latter, it depends on what branches of mathematics you've studied. I
recommend asking some of the professors in your department for
recommendations based on what you've studied; they may even have "an in"
with someone at a company in which you're interested.

Presuming it's the latter, I'd second the recommendation and add who's
sponsoring the research project you're using Matlab on now that (again
I'm presuming) is giving you your thesis topic? They're a likely
candidate one would think...

I guess I thought it would be too much to have you actually do my work for me, which it aorta seemed like I'd be doing if I asked specifically for me. But I guess I should've.

I am in northern NJ, in the NYC Metro area.

Honeywell uses Matlab in their Aerospace and ACS divisions. Corporate headquarters are in NJ, but Aero is mostly in Arizona and ACS is headquartered Minnesota.
