From negative values to zero

I have an image A with -1024 as a minimum value and 250 as a maximum value.
I converted A to a binary image B by using im2bw function.
My question is: A(315,365) = -873, why B is equal to 0? but B(315,365) is a white pixel! How can I resolve this problem? because B is then used, it will be multiplied by another image C. With this prob, C(315,365) will be 0, which is not the case.

Hope that my question was clear.
Thank you,
