matlab R14 runs on Linux enterprise.
ran uigetfile from matlab command window after matlab started.
Select file dialog box showed up. Clicked on a file under Files. But
no file name showed on Selection. If click on Open, message " File
does not exist". No file can be selected from uigetfile.
I know uigetfile works normally but do not understand why this
happend. It is really an annoying problem.

I still have this problem and it exists even after I restart matlab.
Please help me what I should do to make uigetfile working correctly.

Thanks.

just a question: are the characters in your file name all plain ascii? I
got similar problem trying to load files with German names.

I should say no. I tried with different types of files, .mat, binary,
ascii (English) but same problem occured. Bad news is that same
problem happens to uigetdir , too.
Thanks.

I am sorry for misunderstanding your question. Yes, all my file names
are plain ascii (english).

I am also having this problem under RedHat Enterprise Linux 3, Matlab
R14SP1. The bug is: run uigetfile, click on a file, click open, get a
"file does not exist" error dialog box, and uigetfile returns 0,
instead of the file name.

There is a workaround: if you manually type in the name of the file,
uigetfile returns successfully. This suggests that the problem is that
the file name is not being copied to the text box.

No solution has been posted to the newsgroups since August '04, and
Jian Lin tells me that he still doesn't have a solution.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Tom

A bit late (...), but JFTR:

If you change the UseNativeDialogs root property to 0 then you will
get a nicer FileChooser in Java.

I use
>setappdata(0,'UseNativeSystemDialogs',0)
for this and it works perfectly in my Ubuntu whereas the normal
uigetfile doesn't work.
