Bio: Leon Peshkin joined the Department of Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School in 2004. Leon earned his Masters in Applied Math from the Weizmann Institute of Science and his PhD in Computer Science from Brown University in 2001. Prior to joining Department of Systems Biology at HMS, Dr. Peshkin was a visiting researcher at Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Faculty of Applied Sciences. My prior research is in the areas of Machine Learning and Computational Linguistics. I believe that the discipline of Machine Learning is the key resource for Systems Biology in providing ways to build structured probabilistic models of complex biological phenomena. My current projects include building syntactically sophisticated engines for mining biological literature, analysis of hierarchy in biological networks and semi-supervised learning for biological data collection and analysis.
