MATLAB Report Generator 3.7

Creating Reports with MATLAB Report Generator

MATLAB Report Generator can take any information from your MATLAB workspace and export it to a document in the form of a report. In this demo, we look at how to work with MATLAB Report Generator. We will open an existing report setup file and add and remove components from it. We will look at several of the components, and then create a report in HTML format. We will open the report file and walk through it. We will create a new style sheet by modifying an existing style sheet. Then, we will create a PDF report, using the new style sheet.

Motivation for Using MATLAB Report Generator

You can use MATLAB Report Generator for any reporting you need to do in MATLAB. MATLAB Report Generator is especially useful when you need to repeat the same data analysis for mutiple data sets and document the results. To document analysis results for just one data file you could manually create a report (for example, in Microsoft Word) by manually copying and pasting your plots and tables into a document. However, when you need to document analysis results for multiple data sets, copying and pasting manually becomes tedious. That is when MATLAB Report Generator comes to rescue.

In this demo we show how MATLAB Report Generator can automate reporting of data analysis results for six helicopter sound recordings. For each of the six sound recordings we want to automatically determine if the recording is clipped and to automatically create a time history plot and a power spectral density plot. We also want to create a summary table automatically with information about how many sound recordings were clipped and which ones they were.

Once we create report setup file to document our analysis of six sound recordings, we can easily apply it to document analysis of an arbitrary number of data sets.

Using Report Explorer to Work with Setup Files

Report Explorer is the graphical user interface (GUI) for MATLAB Report Generator. Using Report Explorer, you can create and modify setup files, which specify components to be included in the report, as well as component attributes and component relationships.

Adding and Removing Components

Components are self-contained, modular elements, such as the Evaluate MATLAB Expression component or the Handle Graphics Property Table component, which control the report generation process and insert information into a report.

Creating a Report in HTML Format

One of the key features of MATLAB Report Generator is that it enables you to create reports in multiple document formats, including Rich Text Format (RTF), Extensible Markup Language (XML), Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Portable Document Format (PDF), and Microsoft Word format.

Working with Style Sheets

Style sheets specify parameters that control the display and formatting of a report. Using Report Explorer you can choose from many style sheets already available or create your own.
