Data Acquisition Toolbox 3.1
Supported Hardware
MATLAB is an ideal data acquisition software environment. MATLAB lets you develop data acquisition systems through Data Acquisition Toolbox and provides support for multiple hardware manufacturers. This support provides you the flexibility to mix hardware from multiple manufacturers when creating MATLAB applications, or switch data acquisition hardware in the future while continuing to use MATLAB as your software environment.
Data Acquisition Toolbox also supports Simulink with blocks that enable you to incorporate live data or hardware configuration directly into Simulink models. You can verify and validate your model against live, measured data as part of Model-Based Design.
Note: The blocks in Data Acquisition Toolbox that support Simulink are available only for data acquisition devices that can be used with the legacy interface.

Data Acquisition Toolbox supports sound acquisition and sound generation using Microsoft Windows compatible sound cards. Data Acquisition Toolbox also supports the standard PC parallel port.
Note: Direct support for the parallel port is available only on Windows XP 32-bit. This support will not be provided with future releases of Data Acquisition Toolbox. Instead, an adaptor will be available as a separate download. This warning has no immediate impact but is intended to advise you for future planning. Once this adaptor is available on MATLAB Central, MathWorks will not be making updates to the adaptor.
Note: The 64-bit version of Data Acquisition Toolbox supports National Instruments devices that can be used with the session-based interface. For all other supported data acquisition devices, you must use the Legacy Interface and the 32-bit version of Data Acquisition Toolbox and MATLAB. The 32-bit versions of Data Acquisition Toolbox and MATLAB can be installed on a 64-bit Windows OS. The Simulink blocks included with Data Acquisition Toolbox are only available for devices that can be used with the Legacy Interface on 32-bit MATLAB.
Other MathWorks products provide additional options for communicating with external hardware devices from within MATLAB. MATLAB supports instruments and hardware that use GPIB (IEEE-488, HPIB), VISA, TCP/IP, UDP, and serial standards through Instrument Control Toolbox. To communicate with cameras and frame grabbers, MathWorks offers Image Acquisition Toolbox. For real-time closed-loop control applications, MathWorks offers products based on Simulink, such as xPC Target and Real-Time Windows Target.
