About the author

The PHYSBE project was assigned to Kevin Kohrt as soon as he arrived at The MathWorks. Kevin has both a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and Purdue, respectively. This is not to say he has no prior training in physiological models. As a graduate student at IUPUI he worked on a MATLAB-based model of biosonar target regognition based on the auditory periphery of the bat Myotis lucifigus.

Regarding PHYSBE, please note that it is a "Simulation Benchmark Experiment", and as such it is only meant to provide a baseline of knowledge about the circulatory system. It does not address the hottest new research on finite difference modeling of turbulant blood flow aroung the pulmonary valve of women over 50 from New Guinea. Nor is the author aware of such hot new research. Questions regarding the Simulink implementation of the model are welcome, but inquiries as to the physiological basis for the model will most likely recieve the response, "I'm really not sure".

Thank you for trying the PHYSBE demo. If you do have an interesting application for the model, please send e-mail to Kevin and let him know how it is being used.
