The FBI has chosen wavelet techniques to compress and efficiently
store fingerprint data. The compressed image is almost indistinguishable
from the original.
A fractal signal (top) is decomposed using the continuous wavelet transform.
The scalogram (bottom) shows the self-similarity of the signal at various
scales as a function of time.
