R2006a

What's New in Release 2006a

R2006a, launched on March 1, 2006, includes updates to MATLAB and Simulink, plus one new product, major updates to 10 products, and minor updates and bug fixes to 64 products. This release reflects a change to a twice-yearly release schedule and a new naming convention.

R2006a introduces MATLAB for Windows x64 and provides new features for distributed computing, MATLAB application deployment to .NET, Simulink model viewing and sharing, and embedded software design and implementation.

MATLAB Builder for .NET new
  • Converts your MATLAB algorithms into .NET or COM components via a graphical user interface
  • Creates .NET assemblies that can be called from C#, VB.NET, or any other Common Language Specification-compliant technology
  • Creates COM objects that can be called from Visual Basic, ASP, Microsoft Excel, or any other COM-compliant technology
  • Supports conversion between native .NET and COM data types and the MATLAB array data types, using data conversion classes
  • Enables unlimited free desktop and Web deployment of independent components

Simulink Control Design 2
  • Design compensators directly in a Simulink model
  • Tune multiloop compensators in a single environment, giving you immediate insight into the effects of coupling between feedback loops
  • Tune blocks using block parameters (such as PID gains) or zero-pole-gain representations
  • Tune compensators in a control system using all the graphical and automated design tools in the Control System Toolbox and Simulink Response Optimization (both available separately)

Simulink Report Generator 3.0.1*
  • You can now export Simulink models that include Simulink blocks, blocks from add-on blocksets, Stateflow diagrams, and user-defined blocks as Web views. You can use Web views to view model structure and navigate hierarchy, all without having MathWorks products installed.
  • New component capabilities let you generate model loop component reports on libraries and include Model Advisor results in your generated reports.
  • User interface and performance enhancements let you view menu commands for increasing and reducing font size and for displaying the message window, and provide faster, more memory-efficient report generation.

Simulink Response Optimization 3
  • Perform response optimization within the SISO Design Tool
  • Add frequency-domain design requirements to SISO Design Tool plots
  • Add time-domain design requirements to LTI Viewer plots (when launched from the SISO Design Tool)
  • Use response optimization to design compensators for control systems by:
    • Tuning parameters within compensator blocks
    • Tuning open- and closed-loop systems

  • Support for new Ethernet cards: National Semiconductor DP83815 and 3Com 3C90X series
  • The xPC Target kernel is implemented with a multithreaded architecture. All existing xPC Target functionality is still supported.
