xPC Target 4.2
Supported Hardware
xPC Target supports a wide variety of I/O boards from many hardware manufacturers. xPC Target I/O board drivers are available for several hardware form factors, including PCI, Compact PCI, PC104, and ISA. The xPC Target Block Library contains support for many I/O types, including analog input/output, digital input/output, PWM generation, as well as communication protocols such as CAN and UDP.

Interactive Hardware Selection Guide
You can use the xPC Target Interactive Hardware Selection Tool to generate a list of supported I/O boards that meet your initial criteria for xPC Target interface hardware. The tool includes direct links to the Web pages provided by the board manufacturers. Your final hardware selection should be based on careful evaluation of the specifications and an evaluation of the suitability of the hardware to your specific application and environment.
Selecting the Computational Platform
xPC Target operates on a wide variety of x86-based PC compatible systems. Use the following references to select compatible target hardware.
- The xPC Target Selecting Hardware Guide (PDF) can help with selecting the appropriate platform and form factor for your application.
- xPC Target CPU Benchmarks (PDF) contains data on real-time CPU performance.
- A PCI Ethernet card is provided with xPC Target. If you choose to use your own Ethernet card, make sure that it uses one of the chipsets in the xPC Target supported Ethernet chipset list (PDF).
You will also need to have a supported compiler on your host PC.
Additional Hardware Support
For full system design and implementation services, consult one of our xPC Target System Integrators. They are capable of a wide range of activities, from writing drivers for new I/O boards, to developing and deploying a large scale hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing environment.
For help getting started with the tools and techniques for prototyping, testing, and deploying Simulink models in real-time systems using xPC Target, the MathWorks consulting staff offers an xPC Target Jumpstart Service.
The Guide for Writing Device Drivers for xPC Target (login required) provides all the information needed to author your own drivers for IO boards.
Finally, you can use this form to request additional hardware support or functionality. The information that you provide will help the development team plan future product releases.
