Consulting - Industry Expertise

Automotive

Automotive control system designers today are expected to shrink development cycles while continuing to satisfy market demands for cleaner engines and new technology. Many automotive companies have met this dual challenge by adopting advanced Model-Based Design and simulation tools from The MathWorks.

Our consultants are industry veterans who have developed and tested real-world systems at major automotive companies, such as Ford and Delphi.

Our clients are industry leaders, such as Daimler-Chrysler, Ford, Renault, PSA and Toyota, who are drawing on the expertise of The MathWorks Consulting Services as they continue to streamline complex development processes.

Our services focus on three key areas of automotive control design:

Application development. MathWorks Consultants can work with you to develop custom applications to automate complex development processes, allowing your engineers to handle and visualize large amounts of data in a natural and intuitive way.

Modeling. With pressure to reduce in-service costs, the benefits of producing a simulation model of the complete system before prototyping can be significant. The MathWorks Consulting Services can model and simulate key linear and nonlinear automotive systems, including powertrain systems, vehicle dynamics, hydraulic systems, and advanced transmissions, as well as design advanced automotive controls.

Test Automation. Using xPC Target or other target processor systems together with the MathWorks design and code-generation tools allows you to perform rapid control prototyping and hardware-in-the-loop simulation and testing. Our consultants work with you to integrate these tools and systems with each other.

Recent projects include:
  • Automating steady-state engine mapping
  • Performing online verification of dynamometer data from databases of physical tests
  • Testing individual vehicle control modules for in-vehicle compatibility without using expensive vehicle prototypes
