Written for sophomore- to senior-level undergraduates, this text presents the application of numerical methods without focusing on the mathematical theory. The book makes use of MATLAB to avoid complex derivations, and teaches the fundamental concepts using MATLAB to solve the practical problems. Topics covered include systems of linear equations, interpolation and curve fitting, nonlinear equations, optimization, and partial differential equations.

MATLAB is introduced in an appendix and is used throughout the book to solve example problems. The authors also briefly discuss the Partial Differential Equation Toolbox and the Symbolic Math Toolbox and use them to solve relevant examples.
