Written for earth scientists, this book introduces basic methods of performing data analysis in geosciences using MATLAB. The text briefly describes each method of data analysis and includes practical examples of how MATLAB technical computing software can be applied to various data sets. The revised and updated Third Edition includes ten new sections and has greatly expanded on most chapters from the previous edition, including step-by-step discussions of each method, followed by a demonstration of the method using MATLAB functions. New sections include: Data Storage and Handling, Data Structures and Classes of Objects, Generating MATLAB Files to Regenerate Graphs, Publishing MATLAB Files, Distribution Fitting, Nonlinear and Weighted Regression, Color-Intensity Transects of Varved Sediments, and Grain Size Analysis from Microscope Images.
