General

  1. What is the download agent?
The download agent is a tool that enables users to download multiple MathWorks products at once.

  2. How does the download agent work?
The download agent is a small Java application that is installed on your workstation each time you use it to download one or more products. There is no need to save the agent since you will get a new agent each time you download MathWorks products. The download agent is downloaded and launched when you push the "Launch Agent" button on the final page of the Web Downloads application (the "Download and install" page).

  3. What are the system requirements to use the download agent?
Customers may use the agent if their workstations meet the following criteria:

    Operating System:
    • Windows, UNIX/Linux, and Mac OS X
    Java configuration:
    • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.5.x or higher including Java Web Start
    Browser:
    • Internet Explorer 6.x or 7.x, Firefox 3.x, or Safari 3.x
    • JavaScript enabled

  4. Where will the download agent put files on my workstation?
By default the download agent will select the temporary folder on your workstation. You will also have the option to specify a different destination directory.

  5. How do I know if I have Java (and Java Web Start) installed on my workstation?
    • The Web Downloads application will automatically detect if you have the correct configuration. If you do, you will see the "Launch Agent" button on the final page (the "Download and Install" page).
    • You may look for Java Web Start in advance by checking the programs installed on your computer.

Java

  1. What if I do not have Java installed on my workstation?
Download and install the Java Software. Go to www.java.com and follow their instructions on how to get a free download of Java Software. You will be installing the Java Runtime Environment or JRE.

  2. What is Java technology? What is a JRE? What is Java Web Start?
Java technology is a computing platform released by Sun Microsystems that lets applications run on virtually any computer provided the computer has the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed. Java Web Start is a component of the JRE that enables you to download and run Java applications from the web. For more information about Java, JRE, and Java Web Start - including where to find free downloads of these products, please visit: www.java.com

  3. My browser has JavaScript enabled; do I still need to install Java?
Enabling JavaScript in your browser lets you take advantage of interactive features of some Web sites. Since the download agent actually runs outside of your browser, you will also need to have the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed on your workstation.

Troubleshooting

  1. Why don't I see the "Launch Agent" button?
The "Launch Agent" button that downloads and launches the download agent appears on the "Download and Install" page only to users whose workstations have the required configuration:

    Operating System:
    • Windows, UNIX/Linux, and Mac OS X

    Java configuration:
    • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.5.x or higher including Java Web Start

    Browser:
    • Internet Explorer 6.x or 7.x, Firefox 3.x, or Safari 3.x
    • JavaScript enabled

If your workstation meets these criteria and you still do not see the "Launch Agent" button, contact customer support at support@mathworks.com or go to www.mathworks.com/support/contact_us/

When contacting Customer Support, please provide the following information:

  2. How can I make sure the download agent is downloading files at the fastest rate possible?
Avoid running through a proxy server. Click the "proxy settings" button when you run the download agent to determine your proxy server configuration. If you are unsure, consult your network administrator.

  3. What should I do if the Java Web Start window appears and then quickly closes without allowing me to continue the download process?
Try turning off the 3-D acceleration in your graphics driver or obtain an updated graphics driver. Contact your system administrator for assistance.
