R2009a Beta for 64-bit Intel-Based Mac Computers

How do I get the beta version of 64-bit R2009a for 64-bit Mac OS® X?

Customers who have a subscription to MathWorks Software Maintenance Service may download the professional version. When installing the software, choose the option to install automatically using the Internet. Then choose Beta Trial from the list of available licenses.

Is this beta available for Student Version?

No. The 64-bit Mac® beta is available only for professional products.

When will 64-bit Mac support be available for general release?

The current target release for 64-bit Mac is R2009b.

Which products are available with this beta?

All products available for the 32-bit Mac platform are available for the 64-bit Mac platform, with the exception of Symbolic Math Toolbox, MATLAB Distributed Computing Server, Simulink Design Verifier, and the PolySpace products. The following products are available with this beta:

What are the known issues for running MathWorks products currently available on 64-bit Intel-Based Macs?

MATLAB

• Creating an mmreader object on a 64-bit Mac is very slow compared to a 32-bit Mac.
• The object returned by mmreader may contain incorrect information, in particular an incorrect number of video frames.
• After Simulink is opened, the MATLAB system menu may be relabeled "NewApplication."

Simulink

• Drag-and-drop operation in the Model Explorer is not working. You can copy and paste as an alternative.
• Column-width resizing in the Bus Editor is not working.
• When a window is closed, focus may go to an incorrect window.
• In the Library Browser, the top (Simulink) node may not be selectable with the mouse. You can use arrow keys.
• Resizing fonts with the Command-+ key combination may not work. You can use the + key on the numeric keyboard or Command-Shift-+ as an alternative.

Instrument Control Toolbox

• Support for serial port devices is not working.

MATLAB Compiler

• Compiled applications and libraries must be started through a Mac bundle, which is launched using the command appname.app/Contents/MacOS/appname. Launching bundles through the Finder application or using the open command is not supported.

MATLAB Report Generator

• RTF and doc files cannot be exported.

SimMechanics

• Starting with R2008b, SimMechanics has an upgraded 3D visualization feature. The new visualization feature does not work on 64-bit Intel-based Macs and reverts to the older visualization.

Simulink 3D Animation

• Alternate Mode of Virtual Scene Viewer, added in R2009a, is not available.
• The vrplay command is not available.

Simulink Report Generator

• RTF and doc files cannot be exported.
