Running Distributed Computing Toolbox and MATLAB Distributed Computing Engine on one computer will not result in performance improvements, but is a good way to get a sense of how to write distributed applications.

Installing these products is not trivial and requires a number of configuration steps, so we strongly recommend that you print out the instructions for your platform.
