Customizing Cluster Setup Instructions

Installing Version 5.0 (R2010b)

Tell us about your computing cluster so we can give you the appropriate set of instructions. We strongly recommend that you involve your system administrator in filling out this form and in the installation of MATLAB Distributed Computing Server.

Tell us about your computing cluster

*Cluster computers' platforms (check all that apply)

*MATLAB end users' platforms (check all that apply)

*Installation Location for MathWorks Products

Requires you to install only once, and then map the installation directory to all of your nodes. Because the products will run over the network, this option increases network overhead.

Requires you to install individually on each node. This option involves no additional network overhead.

*Scheduler

MATLAB Distributed Computing Server requires a scheduler to queue and manage jobs submitted to the cluster. You can either use the Job Manager (the scheduler included with MATLAB Distributed Computing Server), or integrate with third-party schedulers.

Note: There must be a shared file system between client and cluster AND you must be able to submit jobs directly to the scheduler from the client

Note: Cluster and toolbox must both run on Windows

Choose this option for SGE, whether or not there is a shared file system between client and cluster

Choose this option if ANY of the following apply:

  • You are using a scheduler that is not listed above (For example: GridMP)
  • You are using a scheduler that is already listed but cannot satisfy the indicated restrictions (For example: a PBS scheduler other than PBSPro)
  • You do not have a shared file system between the cluster and the client, unless you are using SGE
  • You are not able to submit jobs directly to the scheduler from the client (For example: using TORQUE with a Windows client)

Please specify third-party scheduler:

*Licensing

Choose this option to use a separate license manager for MATLAB Distributed Computing Server. This license manager would most likely be installed on the head node so that individual nodes can access it for a license. Use this option if you do not currently run FLEXnet or your cluster nodes can not access your network license manager.

Choose this option if you already have a FLEXnet server running on your network and you want to use it for the MATLAB Distributed Computing Server. Note: Cluster computers must be able to contact your shared license manager over the network.
