Why do I get a registry key error when launching MATLAB as a User from Windows 2000?

After installing MATLAB using the adminstrator profile I can launch MATLAB as an administrator, but when I log on as a User and launch MATLAB I get a registry key error.

NOTE: The following solution has not been fully tested by MathWorks, and therefore we are not aware of any issues or problems that may result from using it.
For R12, R13, and R14 installations, you must run MATLAB at least once as Administrator after installing the program. After running the program, all users should be able to run MATLAB, regardless of their priveledges. This is neither a bug or a feature of MATLAB at this time.
If you're still running MATLAB R11, please refer to the information below.
PLEASE NOTE: Windows 2000 is not officially supported for MATLAB R11. So you may still have issues even if the following workaround lets you launch MATLAB.
This usually occurs because MATLAB tries to register itself as an ActiveX automation server but the user does not have sufficient privileges to allow for this. In such a case the Editor and Workspace browser may not function properly.
Try the following solution to avoid these Registry Errors:
NOTE: In order for this solution to work, the user must be temperarily logged in as a user with administrative rights (for example, Administrator). The following procedure will NOT work otherwise.
1) Go to Start --> Programs --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management
2) Expand the Systems Tools, then the Local Users and Groups checkbox
3) Click on Groups
4) Double click on Administrators in the right window pane
5) Select Add... in the Administrators Properties window
6) In the Look In field, make sure the local computer name is shown (ie, not a domain name)
7) Pick the username to add to the Administrators group from the list and click the Add button
8) Click OK
9) Click OK again to leave the Administrators Properties window.
10) Close the Computer Management window.
That's it. The user can now login with their user account, and installations should work fine.
