Subject:

Why am I unable to start the MATLAB installer on MAC OS X?

Problem Description:

When I double click the Install MATLAB for Mac OS X within the dmg file, I receive one or more of the following errors in the Console:

An error occured while executing the AppleScript:
Can't make POSIX file "/Volumes/MathWorks_R13_1" of «script» into a alias.
Or:
Error compiling script "/Volumes/Install for Mac OS X/Install for Mac OS
X.app/Contents/runme.txt":

Expected end of line, etc. but found identifier.

Solution:

The first error will occur if you are using copied CDs, instead of the original CDs, to install MATLAB for OS X. When you are installing products from MathWorks, you should use the original CDs.

If you need original CDs from MathWorks, please contact Customer Service:

http://www.mathworks.com/company/aboutus/contact_us/

Alternatively, you can also download MATLAB as long as your license is under maintenance. In order to download the software you must first login to your MathWorks Account:

http://www.mathworks.com/accesslogin/myAccount.do

If you are using the original CDs, then you may have a problem with the cache settings in Jaguar. Please try the Jaguar Cache Cleaner from Northern Softworks at:

http://www.northernsoftworks.com/jaguarcachecleaner.html

Alternatively, this may also be a problem with DiskCopy, which can be fixed with a reinstallation from the Jaguar System CDs.

We are not sure as to why the second error occurs. The few customers who have reported this have found that upgrading to at least 10.1.5 has helped.
