Subject:
Why are there no products listed to be installed on a Mac machine when running the installation from downloads?
Problem Description:
When I run the MATLAB installation on a Mac after downloading files from the website, there are no products listed to be installed.
Solution:
This error can occur on Mac when the installation files are downloaded, but not moved into the matlab_installer folder after the folder is extracted from the matlab_installer.tar file (installer.zip as of R2010b). You can also run into this problem if you are using an installation key that does not include your products.
Please check that your browser has not extracted the toolbox files (as of R2010b, these are in .zip format, prior to R2010b, the file extensions are of .common or .maci/.maci64 format). You will want to avoid extracting these files, as this makes them unusable. If these have become extracted (check to see if they show up as folders) then you will need to download these files again.
After running the matlab_installer.tar (installer.zip as of R2010b), a matlab_installer folder gets created. You must move all of the remaining downloaded files into this folder. The installer needs to see these files inside of that folder to perform the installation properly. Once the files are in this folder, run "Install for Mac OSX" from this folder.
*NOTE: As of R2010b, you must be certain you have downloaded both the common.zip and maci64.zip files for this process.
It is also possible that the installer files for your products are corrupt or missing, or the license file that you have does not include those products. The easiest way to resolve this is to download the files again, and run the installation again.
If you are still missing those products, please note that for most products, including MATLAB, the installation needs two files to install the product, a .common file and a .maci file (or .mac for PowerPC Macs). For example, installing MATLAB on an Intel Mac requires matlab.common and matlab.maci. If you have only one of the two files downloaded, the installer will not be able to install them, and it will not list them to be installed. You will need to download the other file in order to install your products.
Note: You must restart the installer in order for it to recognize these new files. If the installer is open, please close it and run "Install for Mac OSX" again once these files are in place.
