How do I install the License Manager for a network license?
Problem Description:
I would like to install the License Manager for a network license on my license server. I would like to know how to perform this installation.
Solution:
To install the License manager for a Network license, see the steps below. Please note that if you are installing a Network Named User license, you will need to create an options file - refer to Related Solution 1-1936F "Is there a way to administer MathWorks products? How do I create an Options file?".
For R2008a and Later:
Note: Before installing the license manager, you will need the license.dat file and File Installation Key (FIK) for your license. Refer to Related Solution 1-5VWC8W, "How can I obtain my Concurrent or Network Named User passcodes for R2008a and higher?" to obtain these.
1. Start the installer. 2. Select "Install manually without using the Internet" or offline installation. 3. When prompted, select "I have my File Installation Key" and paste the key into the text field. 4. Browse to the license.dat file when prompted for the license file. 5. When prompted, select "Custom" and check off the license manager for installation. 6. Proceed with the installation until it is completed.
For R2007b and Earlier:
Note: Before starting this installation you will need the license.dat file that you created from the passcode E-Mail you received. If you are installing the license manager on Windows, you will also need the concurrent Personal License Password (PLP).
Windows -------------
1. Start the installer, choose "Install" and click Next. 2. Enter your PLP and click Next. 3. When prompted to enter the path to your license.dat file, browse to the location of the license.dat file you created from the passcode E-Mail you received. The installer is reading the contents of this file, therefore the location of the file does not matter. 4. When prompted to choose an Installation Type, select "Custom" and click Next. 5. When prompted to select products to install, check the box for "License Manager" and click Next. 6. Proceed with the installation until it is completed.
Linux/Unix --------------
1. Create a directory where the license manager will be installed into. Example: /usr/local/MATLAB/ 2. Place a copy of the license.dat file you created from the passcode E-Mail you received. 3. Browse to the MATLAB directory that you created in step 1. From this location, run the installer using the full path to the installer location. Example: /cdrom/install 4. Click 'OK' and continue through the installation. If you are only installing the license manager on this machine, then when you get to the screen that asks which 'Items to install:', only have the License Manager in that column. You can move the other items by selecting them and clicking the 'Remove' button.
Mac ------
1. Place a copy of the license.dat file you created from the passcode E-Mail you received. 2. Start the installation using the "InstallForMacOSX" application 3. If prompted for password, enter your Mac system password 4. Continue the installation until you reach the point where you are prompted for your license file information. Drag the license.dat file from your desktop into this window. 5. Continue the installation from this point using the basic installation options. If you are only installing the license manager on this machine, then when you get to the screen that asks which 'Items to install:', only have the License Manager in that column. You can move the other items by selecting them and clicking the 'Remove' button.
Once the license manager has been installed on the license server, see Related Solution 1-3UVPJX for installing MATLAB on any client computers.
