How do I install MATLAB 7.6 (R2008a) or newer automatically using the Internet?

Problem Description:

I would like to install MATLAB 7.6 (R2008a) or newer using my standalone license, and I have a connection to the Internet without a Firewall, or with port 443 unblocked. I would like to use the automatic installation function to install and activate MATLAB automatically using my Internet connection.

Solution:

To install and activate MATLAB on a machine that has access to the Internet, you will need the following items:

- The MATLAB DVD or downloaded installation files
- A MathWorks Account that is associated with a license and authorized to activate, or an Activation Key

If you are lacking any of the aforementioned items, contact your license Administrator for assistance.

Installing MATLAB:
==========
1. Start the installer. On the first screen, choose the first option, "Install automatically using the Internet" and click Next.

2. Accept the license agreement and click Next. If you receive a connection error, see the Related Solution "Why do I get a connection error when installing or activating MATLAB R2008a or higher?" If this error cannot be resolved, you may have to activate manually. See the Related Solution "Can I install & activate on a computer manually that cannot connect to the Internet?"

3. On the next screen, you will be asked to log in to your MathWorks Account or create one if you don't have one. If you have an account, enter your email address and MathWorks account password, and click Next. If you do not know your account password, click the "Forgot your password" link. If you do not have an account, choose accordingly.

4. Next, you will need to indicate the license for which you wish to install MathWorks products. If you have logged into your MathWorks Account, from the list of licenses, select the license number you would like to install and click Next. If you are installing a license to which you are not yet associated, click "Enter an Activation Key for a license not listed", and enter the Activation Key and click Next. If you elected to create a MathWorks account in Step 3, you will be asked for an Activation Key.

5. Choose between a Typical or Custom installation and click Next. A Typical installation will install all of your available products. A Custom installation will allow you to select which products will be installed.

6. Confirm your installation path. This is the directory where MATLAB will be installed.

7. Confirm all other installation options and proceed with the installation.

8. After the file copy process is complete, verify the options on the file associations screen when prompted.

9. Installation is now complete. When prompted, continue to the Activation stage by clicking Next.

Activation:
==========
1. On the first screen of the activation client, select "Activate automatically using the Internet" and click Next.

2. If you have an Individual or Group license set to Designated Computer (DC), proceed to Step 4.
If you have an Individual or Group license set to Standalone Named User (SNU), proceed to Step 3.
If you have not yet chosen between SNU and DC, you will be prompted to do so on this screen. To learn the difference between SNU and DC, see the Related Solution "What are the licensing policies for an Individual license?".

3. For SNU only: You will need to indicate the named Licensed End User for whom you are activating and confirm their Computer Login Name. If you are the Licensed End User, choose "Me" and confirm the Login Name, which is automatically filled in with the name of the user currently logged in. If you would like to designate someone else as the end user, click "Someone Else" and enter their name, email, and Computer Login Name. Click Next to continue.

4. Review the activation details and click Activate.

5. Activation is complete. Click Finish to launch MATLAB.
