Why am I unable to use National Instruments devices with the Instrument Control Toolbox 2.9 (R2010a) on a 64-bit Mac machine?

I am unable to use any of my National Instruments hardware devices with the Instrument Control Toolbox. I am running a 64-bit Mac machine.

The National Instruments VISA libraries are currently not 64-bit compatible, and will not work with 64-bit applications, including 64-bit MATLAB.
To work around this issue, install the 32-bit version of MATLAB and the Instrument Control Toolbox.
