Trials

  1. What is trial software?

    Trials allow you to evaluate MathWorks products, at no cost, for a limited time.

  2. Who is eligible to receive a trial?

    With the exception of students who are not eligible to receive a trial for any MathWorks products, all commercial and educational customers are eligible to receive a trial. Students are not eligible because trials are for professional MATLAB users. However, students can purchase the MATLAB & Simulink Student Version at their campus bookstores or the MathWorks Web store.

  3. I am a professor; how can I get a trial the MATLAB & Simulink Student Version?

    If you are a professor thinking of requiring or recommending MATLAB Student Version to your students, you can obtain a free trial of MATLAB Student Version. Contact your sales representative to inquire about obtaining a trial. If you do not know who your sales representative is, contact our Product and Pricing team at 508-647-7000 (option 3) or via the Professor Evaluation request form.

  4. How do I receive a trial version of MathWorks products?

    You may download a trial version of most MathWorks product from our Web site if you are a licensed user of a Professional Version of MATLAB, and you have an up-to-date subscription to MathWorks Software Maintenance Service. If you are a new MATLAB user, please complete the request trial software form. A sales representative will contact you about trying MathWorks products.

  5. Why do I need to contact The MathWorks for trial software?

    To give our customers the best possible experience using MATLAB, we help new users get started by talking with you for a few minutes to understand how you can use our products in your work. We help you select products for your specific needs and ensure that you'll be able to effectively use your trial software. Call us at 508-647-7000, or complete the request trial software form to get started.

  6. How do I get a trial version of MATLAB if I cannot download it from the Web?

    If you cannot download our software for evaluation, we will send you a disc. Contact sales to request a disc.

  7. Can I request trial versions and run them with products I am already licensed for and have installed?

    You may run our trial version products with licensed installed products of the same release only on an individual license. You cannot install our evaluation products on concurrent licenses.

  8. Will I be contacted by a sales representative when I evaluate products?

    In some cases for releases prior to R2008a, a sales representative must contact you to discuss configuration issues prior to sending the trial version passcode to unlock your software. Since the products you are requesting to evaluate are sophisticated software packages, a sales representative may call during your trial period to check on your success and to help with configuration or questions you may have.

  9. What do I do if I want to evaluate a product that isn't on the list?

    Check the platform availability matrix to see the products supported on your platforms. If a product is not on the list, it may mean that the product is not offered on the platform you need or not available for download. Contact sales for more information on these products.

  10. How do I extend my trial period on a product?

    To request an extension of your trial period for a product, contact sales.

  11. Do I need to download the software I'm interested in evaluating if I already have the disc?

    If you already have the disc, you may need just the evaluation passcode for releases prior to R2008a to open the products in which you are interested. To request just an evaluation passcode, contact sales. For R2008a and later, you do not need an evaluation passcode, but instead must activate the products during installation. See Activation section below.

  12. I need to evaluate additional products, but am getting a message that my URL has already been activated.

    URLs sent by representatives are good for only one use. To request an additional URL to try more products, please complete the request trial software form.

  13. Can I evaluate the same product on multiple platform/OS combinations?

    You can only download trial products for a single platform/OS. Please contact sales to evaluate on multiple platform/OS combinations.

  14. What should I do if I don't think my trial software downloaded properly?

    Contact Customer Service.

  15. Can I use any version of MATLAB with the trial versions of toolboxes that are available to download?

    For your evaluation to work properly, please check to make sure you are evaluating products within the same release.


Licensed Products

  1. How do I associate myself with a license?

    The prerequisites for associating yourself with a license are:

    • A valid license number (accessible from the MATLAB command line by typing "ver")
    • A MathWorks Account (If you do not have one, click create account in the top navigation.)

    To associate yourself with a license:

    1. In the License Center, click the Associate Me with a License button.
    2. Enter a valid license number and an e-mail address.
    3. Click Submit.

  2. Why am I unable to download my licensed products?

    To download your licensed products and updates:


    Troubleshooting
    If you go back to the first screen when downloading, check the following:
    • Review your MathWorks Account and verify your company information and country selection. (You can update this information by clicking Edit My Profile.)
    • Enable cookies in your Web browser.
    • Make sure your firewall is configured to allow downloads. If you do not have access to your firewall, please contact your systems administrator.

    If you continue to experience problems, check other download solutions, or contact Customer Service.

  3. What is the Set Download Permissions option?

    This option enables the administrator or asset manager to grant individual users permission to download software. Users can then download their licensed products and updates directly from mathworks.com.

  4. How do I request a DVD if I cannot download?

    To request a DVD for a licensed product, contact Customer Service.

    Note: You must be either the administrator or asset manager on a professional product license.
    As of Release 2007a, products are shipped on DVD. Earlier releases are available on CD.

  5. How do I get passcodes for older releases?

    To obtain the last-generated passcode:

    1. Go to the License Center
    2. In the license table, select the license to display all tabs.
    3. In the Pre-R2008a or PolySpace Passcodes tab, click either the Get Passcodes or Request Passcodes button.

    Note: For Group licenses, the passcode is available on each Group Member license.

  7. How can system administrators enable end users to download product updates directly from mathworks.com?

    To enable end users to download products:

    1. In the License Center, select the license you want to enable download permissions
    2. Go to the Manage Users and License Contacts tab.
    3. Click the Set User Permissions button.
    4. Select users and choose download permissions to grant.
    5. Provide passcodes or license files to users in accordance with the license agreement.
  8. How do I burn an ISO image on a CD for PolySpace products?

    To burn an ISO image, you must have a CD or DVD burner with the appropriate software. If you don't have one of these devices, you can use third-party software available on the Internet to create a virtual CD and mount ISO images. As an alternative, you may request PolySpace products on CD from The MathWorks.


Activation

  1. Which products and releases require activation?

    Beginning with Release 2008a, The MathWorks requires activation of all software in the MATLAB® and Simulink® product families. Go to the Activation Overview page for more information.


Download Agent

  1. Is there a way to download all of my products at once?

    Yes, you can use the Download Agent to download all of your products at once. If you have Release 2006b or later for Windows, you can download directly from the installer.
