In this webinar we demonstrate how to model and simulate hydraulic systems using SimHydraulics. We show you how to define your hydraulic network within the Simulink environment using physical connections, tune and refine your design, connect to realistic 3-D mechanical systems, and test using hardware-in-the-loop simulation.  A backhoe arm with three hydraulic actuators is used to show some of the modeling, simulation, and deployment capabilities of SimHydraulics.

This webinar includes demonstrations and explanations to show you how to:

  • Model hydraulic systems with components such as valves, cylinders, and pipelines
  • Define custom valve models with configurable levels of fidelity
  • Create custom components with Simscape language
  • Automatically tune parameters of components to meet system requirements
  • Run simulations in real-time for HIL testing

Hydraulic systems vary widely in size and complexity. Simulating hydraulic networks together with mechanical and control systems is critical to optimizing system performance. To ensure that testing is efficient, SimHydraulics offers a number of ways to easily balance the tradeoff of model fidelity and simulation speed.  Each of these concepts is covered in this presentation.

About the presenter: Steve Miller is responsible for the technical marketing of the physical modeling products at MathWorks. Steve joined MathWorks as an Application Engineer in 2005 and moved to the Design Automation Marketing group in 2006. Prior to that, Steve worked at Delphi Automotive in Braking Control Systems and at MSC.Software as an Adams specialist, consulting in various capacities at Ford, GM, Hyundai, BMW, and Audi. Steve has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
