Overview

Chemical engineers solve many challenging problems using first-principles, hybrid, or data-driven modeling techniques. The chemical engineering curriculum is designed to introduce some of these modeling techniques along with chemical engineering concepts. MathWorks tools help chemical engineers with their modeling tasks in their academic and professional careers.

These complimentary sessions are recommended to chemical engineering students, faculty and industry professionals, or anyone interested in these topics. Prior MATLAB or Simulink knowledge is not required to attend.

21 Apr 2023	Introducing ContCarSim: a Benchmark Simulator for Smart Manufacturing in the Pharmaceutical Industry Francesco Destro, MIT Francesco Destro, MIT Francesco Destro is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His main research interests focus on modeling, optimization, and control of (bio)pharmaceutical processes. Francesco holds a B.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Padova (Italy), where he worked toward a Ph.D. dissertation on the digitalization of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing. Francesco was a Visiting Ph.D. Student at Siemens Process Systems Engineering (London, UK) in 2019 and at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) in 2020 and 2022.	Event has passed
24 Apr 2023	Chemical Kinetics and Reaction Engineering with MATLAB Spandhana Gonuguntla, MathWorks Spandhana Gonuguntla, MathWorks Spandhana Gonuguntla is a Senior Customer Success Engineer at MathWorks India. She works with faculty and researchers in India to enable the effective use of MATLAB and Simulink in their curriculum and research. She specializes in data analytics, mathematical modeling, machine Learning, and deep learning. She has a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the National University of Singapore and a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Surathkal. Her focus during her Ph.D. was designing novel smart-actuating systems with smart polymers. 28 Apr 2023	The Importance of Simulations for Process Safety Akhil Gopinath, MathWorks Akhil Gopinath, MathWorks Akhil Gopinath is an Education Technical Evangelist at MathWorks, where he works with educators, students, and researchers to help them be successful in using MATLAB and Simulink in their curriculum and research. In 2019, he received his MS in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras. He was awarded the Smt. D L Saraswati Memorial Prize in 2019 for his M.S. contributions in the field of Environmental Engineering. He specializes in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, IT/OT Automation, Advanced Process Control, Chemical Process Modelling, and Simulation and Optimization. 12 May 2023	The Chemical Reaction Engineering Toolbox Dr. Klaus Schnitzlein, Brandenburg Technical University Dr. Klaus Schnitzlein, Brandenburg Technical University Dr. Schnitzlein has been a professor of Chemical Reaction Engineering for almost three decades at the Brandenburg Technical University. He received his Dr. degree from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg modelling catalytic multi-scale gas-phase reactors under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hanns Hofmann. Since this time he is involved in modelling and design of chemical reactors of all kinds (e.g. catalytic multi-phase reactors, biochemical-reactors, electro-chemical reactors).
