Technology Demonstration: Transformation from ‘Traditional’ to ‘Smart’ Factory
Foundation for Smart Manufacturing (FSM) is an initiative at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-Delhi) with collaboration from the Automation Industry Association (AIA), and the Indian Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises. FSM’s charter is to promote the adoption of Industry 4.0 solutions to the Indian manufacturing sector. Under this charter, FSM has set up a Smart Manufacturing Research Lab at the IIT Delhi campus that serves as a technology demonstrator. FSM and MathWorks team will showcase following examples during the event to demonstrate application of different technologies:
About the Presenters
Anup Wadhwa, Director, Automation Industry Association (AIA)
Anup Wadhwa is an Alumnus of IIT Delhi from where he completed his bachelor’s degree in technology in Electrical and Electronics in 1975 His passion for Digital Electronics started in college and later took him to an exciting career in the field of Industrial Automation, Mr. Wadhwa has served in systems engineering and special projects, for BHEL, a premier public sector company, Rockwell Automation, a leading technology MNC and SAMTEL. As Director AIA, he conceptualized and steered the industry partnership with IIT Delhi and Department of Heavy Industry to set up the IITD AIA Foundation for Smart Manufacturing. Anup is an Evangelist of the Samarth Udyog Ecosystem that integrates the efforts of different agencies in Government and Academia He has served on Government and UNIDO Expert Committees related to country relevant initiatives in Industry 4.0 with special focus on interdisciplinary cooperation.
Prof. Sunil Jha: Director IITD-AIA Foundation for Smart Manufacturing
Prof Sunil Jha, did his PHD in Manufacturing Science from IIT Kanpur and has been engaged in teaching and research on manufacturing processes, Computer Aided Manufacturing and Industrial Automation since last 12 years. He has developed new unconventional super finishing processes and filed 6 patents few of them have been successfully commercialized. Before joining IIT Delhi, he worked with TATA Motors, Jamshedpur in the area of CAD/CAM and was engaged closely in digitization of engine components and foundry tooling development. Currently in the capacity as Director IITD AIA Foundation for Smart Manufacturing, Dr Jha is closely supporting manufacturing industry in absorbing new technologies to make them ready for next industrial revolution.
Shireesh H, Practice Head – Digital Transformation & Industry 4.0, Tech Mahindra
Shireesh has 25+ years of experience in the industry, currently heads “Digital Transformation & Industry 4.0” Practice at Tech Mahindra. He is responsible to offer digital transformation solutions across verticals and support customers for successful development & deployment of Industrial & Engineering Analytics Solutions around Machine Connectivity, Visualization, Condition Based Monitoring, Predictive / Prescriptive Analytics, Engineering Analytics and Digital Twin Solutions.
Prashant Rao, Senior Manager - Application Engineering, MathWorks India, MathWorks
Prashant Rao is a senior technical manager at MathWorks India and leads a team of customer-facing engineers encompassing the application engineering and pilot engineering roles. By applying industry and application expertise across numerous domains, Prashant and his team work with customers to enable the adoption of MATLAB® and Simulink® products for technical computing and Model-Based Design. Prashant has over 19 years of experience in application engineering and hardware design engineering roles. Prashant joined MathWorks in Germany in 2005 and worked with customers in the signal processing, communications, HDL code generation, and HDL verification domains before moving to India in 2009 to lead the MathWorks India application engineering team. Prior to joining MathWorks, Prashant worked at two semiconductor IP startup companies: Starcore LLC and PACT XPP Technologies AG. He has a master’s equivalent degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in microelectronics from the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH), Germany.
Philipp Wallner, Industrial Automation & Machinery Industry Manager, MathWorks GmbH
As the Industry Manager for Industrial Automation & Machinery at MathWorks, Philipp works closely with innovation leaders among key customers and development teams to sharpen MathWorks' strategy and offering for Digital Transformation, AI and Industry 4.0. Prior to joining MathWorks, he worked in the machine builder industry where he held different engineering and management positions. He has an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Graz University of Technology and an Executive MBA in Project and Process Management from Salzburg Management & Business School.
