Support for GenICam 3-D cameras
Image Acquisition Toolbox™ now supports GenICam™ compliant 3-D cameras with GenDC and multipart buffer payload types. This allows simultaneous acquisition of point cloud and image data from multiple components.
You can access GenICam component data using the gentl adaptors with the
videoinput object.
After creating your gentl
videoinput object, use the componentInfo
function with the videosource object to display a list of components
supported by the camera. Use the ComponentSelector property to
specify a component, and use the ComponentEnable property to enable
or disable it. Use getdata or getsnapshot to read the data. When multiple components are enabled, these
functions return a struct, with a field for each component.
The preview function has a new name-value
argument, Components, to specify which of the enabled components to
include in the preview.
For more information on this feature, see Live 3-D Proximity Detection Using a Time-of-Flight Camera and Acquire Point Cloud and Image Data from Multiple Camera Components.
Support for live detection in Visual Anomaly Detector app
Image Acquisition Toolbox now supports live detection in the Visual Anomaly Detector (Visual Inspection Toolbox) app.
New examples
This release of the toolbox features the following new examples:
Image previews automatically scale to fit
Any image previews now automatically scale to fit in the display. Previous releases used scrolling to accommodate larger images.
Acquire point cloud video with GenICam devices
Image Acquisition Toolbox now supports acquisition of point cloud format videos from GenICam compliant devices.
For point cloud video, the ReturnedColorSpace property of the
videoinput object has the value
"pointcloud". Supported pixel formats are:
Coord3D_ABC32f Coord3D_ABC32f_Planar
For example:
hw = imaqhwinfo('gentl');
di = hw.DeviceInfodi =

Forward compatibility of custom adaptors
Until now, your custom adaptors had to be rebuilt for every release of Image Acquisition Toolbox. After you rebuild your custom adaptor for R2025b, you will not have to rebuild it again for future release unless otherwise expressly instructed.
Quality and stability improvements
R2025b delivers quality and stability improvements, building on the new features introduced in R2025a.
Additional GenICam pixel formats
Image Acquisition Toolbox has added support for the following GenICam pixel formats.
3D Depth Pixel Formats:

GenTL upgraded to version 1.6
The Image Acquisition Toolbox
gentl adaptor has been upgraded to GenTL version 1.6.
Detect cameras with unsupported pixel formats
MATLAB® now warns when cameras with unsupported pixel formats are detected. In previous releases, such cameras were ignored.
New properties for GigE Vision cameras using gentl adaptor
When using GigE Vision® cameras with the gentl adaptor, the following new
properties are available on the videosource object:
GevSCPD— GigE Vision Stream Channel Packet Delay, specifies packet delay.GevSCPSPacketSize— Specifies GigE Vision packet size.

Support added for GenICam chunk data
You can now access GenICam chunk data properties using the gentl adaptors with the
videoinput object.
After creating your gentl
videoinput object, use the chunkDataInfo
function with the videosource source object to display a list of all
chunk data supported by the camera. Then, enable chunk mode by setting the
ChunkModeActivate source property to "True".
Use the ChunkSelector property to specify a chunk data and use the
ChunkEnable source property to enable or disable it. To read
enabled chunk data, examine the new ChunkData field in the
metadata output variable of getdata or getsnapshot.
For more information, see the example Get Hardware Metadata from GenICam Device.
GenICam upgraded to version 3.4.0
The gentl and gige adaptors have been upgraded
to use GenICam version 3.4.0. This upgrade also enables GigE Vision hardware support using the gige adaptor on Apple silicon
Mac machines.
Support added for GenICam commands
You can now access GenICam device commands using the gentl and
gige adaptors with the videoinput object.
After creating your gentl or gige
videoinput object, use the commands function with
the videoinput source object to display a list of available commands.
Then, use executeCommand to execute the specified command.
In the Image Acquisition Explorer app, GenICam commands and properties are listed alongside other device-specific properties in the Device Properties panel, including a button to execute commands.
Launch Image Segmenter app from within Image Acquisition Explorer app
The Image Acquisition Explorer app can now launch the Image Segmenter app and send it the most recent image data captured in the app session. Use Image Segmenter to create, refine, and save segmentation masks for your image.
Launch Image Segmenter from the Visualize and Analyze section of the Image Acquisition Explorer app toolstrip. You must have Image Processing Toolbox™ installed to use Image Segmenter.
Support package documentation moved into Image Acquisition Toolbox documentation
Starting in R2023b, all the documentation for Image Acquisition Toolbox Support Package for GigE Vision Hardware and Image Acquisition Toolbox Support Package for Kinect® For Windows® Sensor is included in the Image Acquisition Toolbox product documentation:
In previous releases, the documentation for these two support packages installs with the support package software. You can still access the release archives for the previous support package releases:
R2023a
Support added for GigE Vision 2.1 hardware
The GigE Vision interface in Image Acquisition Toolbox now supports acquisition from GigE Vision version 2.1 compliant cameras. You can connect to GigE Vision 2.1 hardware using the gige adaptor with the
videoinput object or using the gigecam
object.
To use the gige adaptor or gigecam object, you
must have the Image Acquisition Toolbox Support Package for GigE Vision Hardware installed.
