Update MathWorks License and Software

Update an Existing Installation

Download and install a more recent version for the release of MATLAB® that you currently have installed. For example, if you have R2019a installed, you might be able to download a more recent version of R2019a.

When you install a MATLAB update, you get not only the most recent update for your version but all prior updates for your version as well.

Update from Notifications

If a more recent version is available, a notification displays in MATLAB when you start the program.

To install the MATLAB update, click the notification icon and select Install Update. If you click the notification but then decide to update at a later time, the notification icon is no longer red, but you can still install the update.

Check for Updates

You can also check for updates manually.

  1. Make sure that you have an active internet connection.

  2. On the Home tab, click Help > Check for Updates > Products.

  3. If there is an update available, click Install Update to install the latest MATLAB product update for your version. If there is no update available for your version or if you have already installed the latest update, MATLABdisplays that information.

Update Your License

Throughout the term of your license, your MATLAB installation periodically contacts MathWorks to verify that your license is up-to-date. If your license is up to date, the validation process is transparent. If it determines that you need to update your license, the validation process displays a dialog box giving you the option to update your license.

You can disable validation at the License Center at the MathWorks website.

Add Products to an Existing Installation

To add products to your existing MATLAB installation, use the Add-On Explorer. See Get Add-Ons (MATLAB).
