I would like to turn off the text or graphics outputs displayed when I use the TRAIN command on the Neural Network Toolbox.

There are two network training parameters that where introduced in the Neural Network Toolbox 6.0 (R2008a). They allow individual control of the command line output and the graphics output of TRAIN. In order to turn off the graphics output of TRAIN, use the following command before you train your network:
net.trainParam.showWindow = false;
if you want to disable the command line output of TRAIN, use the following code:
net.trainParam.showCommandLine = false;
Where 'net' is your neural network object.
In previous releases of MATLAB these two options are not available. However there is a workaround. You can use the 'net.trainParam.show' property to indicate how many training iterations to wait between plot and command window updates. Setting this parameter to 'NaN' will disable both types of output. This is shown in the following code:
net.trainParam.show = NaN;
