I have ModelSim XE III 6.2g and ModelSim PE 6.2g installed on my system. When I execute the VSIM command at MATLAB Command prompt, I get the following error message:
??? Undefined function or variable 'vsim'.
I would also like to know the ModelSim Simulator versions supported by EDA Simulator Link MQ (or Link for ModelSim) compatible with MATLAB 7.3 (R2006b).

The error message indicates that you do not have EDA Simulator Link MQ (previous known as Link for ModelSim) product added in your license. VSIM is a built-in function available within the EDA Simulator Link MQ and it can be used to start and configure ModelSim simulator with the MATLAB and Simulink features of EDA Simulator Link MQ.
More information about EDA Simulator Link MQ can be found at the following product page:
<http://www.mathworks.com/products/modelsim>
MATLAB 7.3 (R2006b) is compatible with ModelSim PE and ModelSim SE versions 6.0c, 6.0d, 6.0e.
