Matlab requires activation upon launch

I have installed Matlab R2014b onto Ubuntu 14.04 as a standalone named user. After finishing the installer I launch Matlab by changning the directory to the installation folder and running "sudo ./matlab". This brings up the activation sequence. I have tried activation through the online steps and offline steps by downloading a license file and entering in the appropriate path to the license. After every attempt to activate the license the activator says that it was successful but when I try to launch matlab the activator opens and I repeat the process.

Is there any way I can get Matlab to actually activate so I can use it?
