Install failure R2014b OSX Mavericks space in file path

1 view (last 30 days)
Hi all,
I'm currently trying to install MATLAB R2014b on my MacBook Pro and I'm running into an issue during the install. I'm being given the error which says "This folder name is invalid. Folder names can contain alphanumeric characters and '-', '_', '.', or '/' only. The destination folder cannot be named "private"." I can only assume that this is because my hard drive is named "Macintosh HDD" with a space. Sadly, I can't change the name of the hard drive without it causing a whole host of other issues as I have several symbolic links in use which would all fail if I were to change the name of the hard drive.
I'm assuming that I can't be the only person with this issue (particularly as most Mac users will have a space in their file path by default) and I'm rather hoping that someone might know of a workaround that I could follow to make it possible to install the software. I've tried the standard Unix based work arounds (encasing the whole file path in "", encasing the particular element within the file path with "", using \ to attempt to make it usable, even replacing it with the ASCII equivalent %20 though that was rather more in desperation than expectation).
I really hope someone can help! I would have submitted this via the standard support channels but as I can't install it I don't have a licence key (MATLAB activation through site licence and all that).
All the best,
Will

Will - I was able to install R2014a on a MacBook Pro where the hard drive has a similar name (MacIntosh HD) without any problems. At what point are you seeing this error? How are you installing the software?

What is the full name of the folder you are trying to install to? I would expect it be to "/Applications/MATLAB_R2014b". I would hope you wouldn't need to mention the hard drive at all in the path.
