Why is MATLAB not responding to any keystrokes or mouse clicks but will open just fine?

I currently have MATLAB R2015a student edition and my program will not respond to any mouse clicks or keystrokes. I can open it just fine and view the display but cannot interact with the program at all. I tried re-downloading the program and restarting my computer. I think it may be something with java so I also tried re-installing java. Any thoughts?

All I can think of is the FAQ: http://matlab.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#After_installation.2C_MATLAB_crashes_or_gives_an_error_message_when_I_try_to_run_MATLAB. - basically it could be anything so let them figure it out. Even though it's a student license you will get free help since it's an installation issue since you can't even run the program.
