How to count moving objects in a video ??

I am going to process a video from stationary camera and i have to detect moving objects in the video (for example a cars,bus) and now i have to count the total number of objects such as cars that have are passing through the video screen i am having trouble with the counting part of the program .My program can easily detect the cars,the moving objects
