Object detection in a building.

Hello friends,
Actually i have a project of object detection and tracking in a building, for that the basic steps is to do background subtraction so that i can get an object,i want to do this by taking the mean and standard deviation of all the frames of a video,,but i am unable to implement...so kindly help me to how to do this...Thanks in advance
