Installing MATLAB Student Edition on Ubuntu 14.04: folder selection problem

I downloaded and unzipped the .zip folder, and ran ./install. The installer opens fine and everything works great until I get to the Folder Selection step. The default folder is /usr/local/MATLAB/R2015a, but when I hit next, it says "Unable to create folder /usr/local/MATLAB/R2015a". I went and created the folder myself and tried re-running the installer, but the same thing happened.
UPDATE: Leaving this here because it might help another n00b, but it was fine once I ran sudo ./install instead of plain ./install.
