FFT working within MATLAB

We were unable to get the FFT working within MATLAB, but this may be due to our minimal exposure to the concept and incorrect programming implementation. Can you guys guide us in this matter.

The current documentation (in R2015b) is not as helpful as that in earlier versions. See specifically the code between the first two plot images in the R2015a documentation here: fft.
