Working of backpropagation algorithms around 'net.trainparam.goal'

I have been working on neural networks for few months now. Can anyone please explain the working of net.trainparam.goal? Its detailed description and how the backpropagation algorithm works around this? I have an idea that the network training is stopped as soon as the goal is reached (one of the many stopping criterias) so kindly answer the question around the lines I have asked. Many thanks
