Why installation is complete without DVD2?

I just installed matlab 2017b in my computer with internet connection. I only insert DVD1, following the prompt, without DVD2. Then the installation is complete. Am I doing something wrong? Why DVD2 is not needed? What is in DVD2?

Call the Mathworks directly for all installation questions. It's fast and free, even for student editions.

My guess would be that you didn't install any toolboxes whose installation files are stored on DVD 2.
