Why I cannot reimplement many of the GUIDE examples in the online documentation?

I have MATLAB R2012b installed and try to build a GUI using the GUIDE workflow in your online documentation. However, it seems like it is not working.

In 2014, MATLAB introduces a new MATLAB graphics system (HG2).

MATLAB R2012b still uses the HG1 graphic system, while the examples you are referring to online are updated documentation that implements the newer graphic system.
