Want to find average distance between two sides of a jagged tube (not perfectly parallel).

I have an image of a tube--converted it into BW- and generated a series of coordinates that correspond to the edges of the two sides using bwtraceboundry().

I was curious what the best way to approach finding the avg distance (not minimum distance) between the tube edges of a section of tube (specified by a rotatable rectangle roi).
