If I install my matlab on the same computer in linux then migrate to windows, does it count ?

Hi,

I just recently aquired a Student License and I wasn't sure in which operating system to install it. For one, I heard that using Linux is a better option but I am still getting used to Ubuntu so I'm not sure if it would be the right choice. My computer is currently running a dual-boot with Windows 10 and Ubuntu and I migrate between them when necessary. If I installed it in the Linux operating system would it be possible to later install it on windows? I'm not sure if my license allows me to download the software in more than one computer. Would it consider the two operating system in my computer as two computers?

It will not consider the dual-boot to be different computers; it will use the ethernet MAC addresses to decide that they are the same computer.

In other words, go ahead, it is completely within the license terms to dual-boot and use MATLAB on both sides. You do not purchase MATLAB for a particular operating system; you purchase the right to use it on one computer, whatever operating system you are using on that computer.

Interesting interpretation.

Oddly that response does not talk about individual "Standard" licenses (also known as Commercial or Professional licenses), as those are not network licenses and are not Home and Student licenses.

I have had no problem activating my Standard license on different operating systems provided that I matched hostIDs. (As I was often using Virtual Machines to do so, I took care to use a consistent HostID for all of the virtual machines, distinct from the HostID of booting directly; this is acceptable under Standard and Educational licenses, but Student or Home licenses could run into problems as they only have one activation.)
