Symbol Error Rate of 16QAM 4X4

I am currently working on this project titled as "Spatial Modulation".

I have been trying to simulate SER (Symbol Error Rate) of 16-QAM 4x4 Spatial Modulation using MATLAB.

What are some of requirements in order to generate the SNR of 16-QAM 4x4 Spatial Modulation? Please advise.

Would it be appropriate to use SIMULINK instead?
