Why am I getting an error -9 after manually activating a Windows machine with a disk serial number that begins with a zero?

After I activate with my Windows hard drive serial number that begins with a zero, I getting a license manager error -9. How can I resolve this issue so that I can start MATLAB?

This error occurs because MATLAB does not identify leading zeros in an Host ID as valid. To work around this issue, activate MATLAB manually using your MAC address instead of your vol c: as the host ID. To get your MAC address, open a Windows Command To activate MATLAB manually, see the following article:
getmac
