Why do I get an error message "Error registering MSHFLXGD.OCX" during installation of MATLAB R2009a or R2009b on Windows 7?

I am installing MATLAB R2009a or R2009b on Windows 7, and getting an error about registering MSHFLXGD.OCX. The installation allows me to continue if I press OK. Will the installation be complete if I proceed?

This bug has been fixed in Release 2010a (R2010a). For previous product releases, read below for any possible workarounds:

This issue is a benign error message on Windows 7. The installer looks for a file that does not exist in Windows 7. This error message can safely be ignored and the installation should complete successfully.
