Matlab Icon for Linux (with Transparency)

version (38.3 KB) by Georg Stillfried
A nice icon to use as Matlab start button in Linux.

There comes a Matlab logo in different sizes with Matlab. It can be found in the "${MATLABROOT}/X11/icons/" directory. However, I didn't like those much, therefore I created a new one.
The image was created by using the "logo" command in Matlab and saving the image. I used Gimp to crop the image, resize it and to set the transparent areas.

Looks good, but would be nice to have in 256x256.

Good Idea.

Wow! I didn't expect such a direct hit when I googled for it. Thanks!! It's nice.

Excelent, thank you

Thank you very much. This one is way better than the shipped ones.

Excelent, i can't believe matlab is still shipped with the ancient icons, found in the X11 folder.

About time someone did it. Last install, I had to make one myself... now you've saved me the trouble :)

Edges are now transparent.

The edges still don't appear to be transparent. If you have export_fig (here on the FEX) then the following gives a good result:
logo; set(gcf, 'color', 'none', 'position', [101 100 127 128]); export_fig matlabicon.png -nocrop

The edge of the 3D-plot should have been made transparent so that the icon show nicely against dark background.

Added a 256x256 version

Improved transparency using export_fig.

Following a suggestion by Ilkka Pohjalainen, the edges are made transparent as well.
