Active magnetic bearings are used to levitate a rotating shaft and allow relative motion without physical contact. The demo shows a multi-domain (mechanical, electrical, and magnetic) physical system which includes a permanent-magnet synchronous machine drive system, two radial bearing systems at both shaft ends, and an axial bearing system. This demo illustrates the general working principles of active magnetic bearings.
