This book presents both the theory of optimal design and methods to apply optimal control theory to solve practical problems in the face of uncertainty. Topics covered include random inputs, errors in measurement, uncertainty in inputs from the environment, static and dynamic estimation, random processes, and several types of controllers, smoothers, and filters. MATLAB and the Control System and Optimization Toolboxes are used to solve application examples throughout the book.
